O'Leary Backs Aggressive Government Spending Cuts by DOGE

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Kevin O'Leary, Chairman of O'Leary Ventures, has voiced strong support for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and its aggressive approach to reducing government spending. He argues that the agency needs to be even more forceful in its cost-cutting measures to achieve optimal results.

In a recent CNN interview, O'Leary drew parallels to private equity practices, emphasizing the need to cut "deeper and harder" when addressing wasteful spending within organizations. He likened government agencies to "big fat chickens" ripe for trimming, advocating for continuous and substantial cuts throughout DOGE's 24-month mandate.

O'Leary's position is that anyone unable to demonstrate their value and contribution should be considered for cuts, regardless of their position. He believes that this aggressive approach will ultimately benefit everyone.

Led by Elon Musk, DOGE was established under President Trump to tackle government waste. The agency has already identified significant areas of potential savings, including a previously undisclosed budget line item linked to trillions in Treasury payments.

However, DOGE's methods and access to federal systems have drawn criticism and legal challenges from several states. Despite this, the agency recently secured a legal victory when a federal judge denied a request to block its access to data from key government departments.
