Fox News' 'The Five' Dominates Cable News Ratings for Seventh Consecutive Quarter

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Fox News Channel's roundtable discussion show, "The Five," has achieved a remarkable feat, securing the top spot in cable news ratings for the seventh consecutive quarter in Q2 2023. This consistent triumph is particularly noteworthy given the program's 5 p.m. ET airtime, a slot traditionally outside of primetime viewing hours.

With an average viewership of 2.8 million, "The Five" surpassed all other cable news programs, including CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper," which garnered an average audience of 676,000 during the same timeslot. The show also led in the key demographic of adults aged 25-54, attracting an average of 299,000 viewers.

The Five Hosts The Five Panel

This success extends beyond "The Five." Fox News Channel outperformed both CNN and MSNBC in total day and primetime viewership for the ninth consecutive quarter, continuing an 86-quarter streak of primetime dominance. The network boasted the top seven programs in total viewership and the top eight in the 25-54 demographic.

Other highly-rated Fox News programs contributing to this victory include "Jesse Watters Primetime," which ranked second overall with 2.3 million viewers, "Hannity," "Special Report with Bret Baier," and "The Ingraham Angle," with Laura Ingraham maintaining her position as the most-watched female cable news host. Daytime programs such as "FOX & Friends," "America’s Newsroom," "The Faulkner Focus," "Outnumbered," "America Reports," "The Story," and "Your World" further solidified the network's strong performance.

Fox News Primetime Lineup

Looking ahead, Fox News announced a revamped primetime lineup starting July 17th. Laura Ingraham will lead off at 7 p.m. ET, followed by Jesse Watters at 8 p.m. ET, Sean Hannity at 9 p.m. ET, and Greg Gutfeld at 10 p.m. ET. Both Watters and Gutfeld will continue their roles on "The Five" alongside their primetime responsibilities.
