A Florida man is facing serious charges, including attempted murder and arson, after allegedly setting his ex-girlfriend's house ablaze following a recent breakup. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office reports that James Hines was deeply upset about the separation and had sent threatening messages to his ex-girlfriend and another woman, vowing to burn their house down with them inside.

The incident unfolded in Brooksville, Florida, in the early hours of July 5th. According to authorities, Hines purchased gloves, a face mask, and gasoline at a local Speedway before setting the house on fire around 3 a.m. Prior to the arson, witnesses reported seeing Hines on a bicycle, carrying a bag of unknown items, and stating his intention to go to the victim's residence.

Law enforcement located Hines at his home later on July 5th. He reportedly attempted to escape through a window and threatened officers. After barricading himself inside, Hines was eventually apprehended after an hours-long standoff that ended with him being shot by officers. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
