The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has confirmed that filmmaker Jeff Baena, known for directing movies like "Life After Beth" and "The Little Hours," tragically took his own life on January 3rd. He was 47 years old.

Baena's passing was initially reported by authorities responding to a call near his residence. A representative for the family shared a statement requesting privacy during this difficult period, expressing their profound devastation.

Baena, who was married to actress Aubrey Plaza, maintained a relatively private personal life. While the exact date of their marriage remains undisclosed, Plaza publicly acknowledged their union in a 2021 Instagram post expressing pride in her husband's work.

Plaza, who was scheduled to present at the Golden Globe Awards just days after Baena's passing, did not attend the event. Director Brady Corbet, accepting his award for Best Director, offered a heartfelt tribute to Baena and Plaza during his speech.

A Miami native, Baena honed his filmmaking skills at New York University before embarking on his career in Los Angeles. His 2014 directorial debut, "Life After Beth," featured his wife, Aubrey Plaza. He also directed films like "The Little Hours," "Horse Girl," and "Joshy."
