Two Birmingham, Alabama firefighters are recovering after being shot at their fire station in what authorities suspect was a targeted attack. The incident unfolded Wednesday morning at Fire Station 9 in the city’s Norwood neighborhood. While the suspected gunman remains unidentified, police believe a personal conflict may have motivated the shooting.

Firefighters Jordan Melton and Jamal Jones were performing routine equipment checks when the shooting occurred. Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that while the investigation is ongoing, detectives believe only one of the firefighters was specifically targeted. Both Melton and Jones underwent surgery and remain in serious but stable condition, having sustained injuries to their chests and legs.

Police Chief Scott Thurmond expressed his concern over the targeting of first responders, emphasizing the troubling nature of the attack. He urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the investigation. Authorities are currently searching for a suspect believed to be driving a silver car.
