June Shannon, known as Mama June, and her family rose to prominence after their appearance on "Toddlers and Tiaras." Now, they face a devastating challenge as Shannon's eldest daughter, Anna Cardwell (formerly "Chickadee" on "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo"), battles stage 4 cancer.
In a recent interview with "Entertainment Tonight," Shannon, along with daughters Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson and Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, revealed that Cardwell's cancer is terminal. "We know it's terminal," Shannon shared, acknowledging the family's acceptance of the prognosis. "She's stage 4. She's not gonna go into remission."

While Shannon emphasized the importance of taking things "one day at a time," Efird expressed a glimmer of hope for future medical advancements. "Who's not to say a year from now they'll have a cure?" she questioned, highlighting the rapid progress of medical research.

Thompson voiced her hope for Cardwell to defy the odds, stating, "It is crazy to think that she will not be here probably in five years, but I'm hoping that she can pull through and fight 10, 20 years."
Despite the dire circumstances, the family shared that Cardwell remains remarkably strong. Shannon described her as "handling it pretty good," with Efird adding that her sister "genuinely is OK" and able to maintain a degree of normalcy in her daily life.

Efird also detailed the physical effects of chemotherapy on Cardwell, noting her hair loss and lack of eyebrows and body hair. While Cardwell hasn't experienced severe side effects, Thompson acknowledged that the treatment "does wear her body down sometimes."

The family's history has been marked by both public triumphs and personal struggles, including Shannon's past relationship with a man who had harmed Cardwell as a child, leading to the cancellation of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," and Shannon's subsequent battles with addiction. Efird and Thompson have been featured on Shannon's more recent shows, "Mama June: From Not to Hot" and "Mama June: Family Crisis," which documented Shannon's struggles and Efird's assumption of custody over Thompson.

Now, the family has rallied around Cardwell, with Shannon maintaining contact with Cardwell's children. They shared insights into how Cardwell's daughters, Kaitlyn (10) and Kylee (7), are coping with their mother's illness, with Kaitlyn demonstrating a mature understanding of the situation and Kylee simply aware that her mother is unwell.

Looking ahead, Cardwell faces the decision of whether to pursue further treatment, such as clinical trials or immune therapy, or to forgo further intervention. The family is grappling with the uncertainty, acknowledging the aggressive nature of the cancer and adopting a "one day at a time" approach.
