A 20-year-old American woman faces charges in Germany after a fatal stabbing incident involving a migrant man at the Kaiserslautern Central Station on June 29. The Kaiserslautern Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that the incident was preceded by an alleged instance of sexual harassment, where the man reportedly grabbed the woman's buttocks. A verbal altercation ensued, leading to the woman opening a folding knife and making stabbing motions towards the 64-year-old man. According to the prosecutor's office, the man then grabbed the woman's arm, and as she broke free, she stabbed him once. He died shortly after.
The American woman claims self-defense, stating she did not intend to strike a vital area. She is charged with bodily injury resulting in death, a charge that, according to the prosecutor's office, requires intent regarding the injury but only negligence regarding the resulting death. Neither individual has been publicly identified by the authorities.
The U.S. State Department acknowledged awareness of the incident involving a U.S. citizen and affirmed their commitment to providing appropriate assistance, while declining further comment due to privacy considerations. Reports indicate the woman could face up to ten years imprisonment under German law. The State Department has not yet issued a public statement on the matter.
