Maryland Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin has strongly criticized Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, alleging that Musk is exercising presidential powers without holding the office. Raskin questioned the public's acceptance of Musk's actions, emphasizing his ineligibility for the presidency and highlighting potential conflicts of interest due to foreign investments. He further accused Musk of aiming to establish a "techno monarchy" through DOGE's cost-cutting measures.

Raskin's remarks were made during an appearance on MSNBC's "The Weekend," where he discussed his proposed "Nobody Elected Elon Musk Act" intended to curb DOGE's influence. He expressed concern over the agency's targeting of specific government programs and the lack of transparency in its operations. Raskin also suggested that some are considering the possibility of impeaching Musk, based on the premise that he has unlawfully assumed presidential authority.
Musk has defended DOGE, stating its focus is on eliminating bureaucratic inefficiencies and addressing the national debt. He argues that DOGE aims to streamline government operations and better serve taxpayer interests. In a recent appearance with former President Trump, Musk emphasized that government reform was a central campaign promise and that DOGE is fulfilling that mandate. He stressed the necessity of reducing federal spending and asserted that DOGE's actions align with the public's desire for a more efficient government.

DOGE's activities have faced legal challenges, including a temporary restraining order limiting access to sensitive Treasury Department data. The agency's investigations into potential wasteful spending within the Education and Defense departments have also drawn attention. The ongoing debate surrounding DOGE's authority and its impact on government operations continues to fuel political discourse.
