NBC News anchor Chuck Todd expressed strong disapproval of the Hispanic supporters who greeted former President Donald Trump at a Miami restaurant following his court appearance on Tuesday, referring to their display of support as a "perversion."

Following his not-guilty plea to 37 felony counts related to classified documents, Trump visited Versailles, a well-known Cuban restaurant in Miami. There, he was met with enthusiastic cheers from supporters and religious leaders. Inside, Trump purchased food, received prayers from supporters, and was serenaded with "Happy Birthday" ahead of his birthday on Wednesday.

During NBC News' live coverage, Todd expressed astonishment at the scene outside the café, calling it "surreal" and unprecedented in the United States. He compared the reception to that of "corrupt" political figures in Central and South America who enjoy public support despite facing legal challenges. Todd questioned why refugees from communist regimes would rally behind Trump amidst his indictment.

Todd characterized the gathering of MAGA-aligned Hispanic supporters as a betrayal of the values the exile community traditionally stood for, expressing disbelief that such a scene could unfold in the U.S., a nation often seen as a haven for those fleeing political turmoil. He predicted that understanding this "bizarre moment" would take years.

Meanwhile, CNN anchor Jake Tapper criticized his own network for broadcasting Trump's interactions with supporters, viewing it as an attempt to create a spectacle and a campaign advertisement. Both CNN and MSNBC later chose not to air Trump's speech to his supporters.
